Mourinho: Hazard delivered his best against Sunderland

Mourinho:
Hazard delivered his best against Sunderland

The Chelsea manager claims the Belgium international registered his most impressive display of the season, which included an assist and two goals

The Belgium international provided the assist for Frank Lampard's equaliser, while two fine strikes enabled Chelsea to remain second in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal.

When asked where he ranked Hazard's display, Mourinho replied: “With me, the best.

“Maybe last season he did something similar or even better but with me that is the best.

“The talent and the ambition were there from the first minute and that’s the first time I’ve seen that from him.

“He has a great talent but sometimes he does an incredible thing then disappears from the game and then might come back in the second half.

“Today, though, the performance was fantastic.”

Mourinho was adamant Chelsea had played well throughout the 90 minutes but admits he is concerned by his side’s lack of concentration.

“The game is also about basic things and we failed in the basic things in the game,” he continued.

“That was down to defensive pieces and set plays. So in a game where we should win clearly, because of the way we played we risk the result up until the last second.

“In the last six minutes if they have two more corners, they win 5-4.”

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet also praised Hazard's performance and claims he will not make heavy changes to his side for their fixture against Tottenham on Saturday.

“He was unplayable, as a manager I haven’t come up against anyone like that,” said Poyet.

“The players in changing room just now have given everything. But unfortunately I don’t have a second team to send out on Saturday.

“We will rest tomorrow then we will pick ourselves up and prepare to beat Tottenham.”
